1 Vancity enviro Visa credit cardholders will earn 50% more base Rewards Points per $1 on eligible purchases made with a Vancity enviro Visa card with Vancity Rewards from July 1, 2021 to September 30, 2021 (the “Offer”). Eligibility is based on the merchant code as classified under the Visa credit card network. Eligible purchases are those made at merchants classified by the Visa credit card network as: Bakeries (MCC 5462) are “Bakeries and ice cream parlors”; (ii) Eating Places and Restaurants (MCC 5812); and Fast Food Restaurants (MCC 5814) are “Restaurants, eateries, and fast food restaurants”; (iii) Tourist Attractions and Exhibits (MCC 7991); Aquariums, Seaquariums, Dolphinariums, and Zoos (MCC 7998) are “Wineries”, “Tourist attractions and museums” and “Local outdoor adventures”; (iv) Used Merchandise and Secondhand Stores (MCC 5931) are “Second-hand stores”; (v) Barber and Beauty Shops (MCC 7230) are “Salons & barbers”; (vi) Health and Beauty Spas (MCC 7298) are “Health & beauty spas”. Some merchants may sell these products/services or are separate merchants who are located on the premises of these merchants but are classified by the Visa credit card network in another manner, in which case the accelerated earn rate will not apply. If the cardholder’s Vancity enviro Visa card already has an accelerated earn rate in these select merchant categories, the cardholder will only receive points for the higher accelerated earn rate. For example, if a cardholder has a Vancity enviro Visa Infinite card that earns 1.25 Points with every $1 purchase, and has an accelerated earn rate of 2.5 Points with every $1 purchase at bakeries, which is 2x the base points (1.25 Points x 2 = 2.5 Points) and is a higher accelerated earn rate than the Offer which is 1.5x the base points, then the cardholder will earn 2.5 Points with every $1 purchase at bakeries, and the Offer will not apply. The Offer does not apply to Vancity enviro Visa credit cards without Vancity Rewards, or to cards issued by Vancity Community Investment Bank.
Vancity Visa cardholders will automatically earn 1.5x more rewards points at businesses with the following MCCs:
If you don't know your 4-digit MCC, simply contact your merchant services provider that processes your business' credit card payments.
Examples of payment processing companies include Global Payments, Elavon, Square Inc., Adyen, etc.
From now until September 30, 2021, when people shop in-store or online at businesses with select Merchant Category Codes (MCC) using an eligible Vancity enviroTM Visa* card, they’ll earn 1.5x the Vancity RewardsTM points1—50% more than normal!
And the best part is, if your MCC is part of the program, you don't have to do a thing. And, neither do your customers—they'll just start earning extra points.

What is a Merchant Category Code?
Your Merchant Category Code (MCC) is a 4-digit code that's used to categorize your business into segments based on the products or services you offer.
How do you I find my Merchant Category Code?
To find your Merchant Category Code simply contact the company that accepts and processes your business' credit card payments. Examples of payment processing companies include Global Payments, Elavon, Square Inc., Adyen, etc.
Why did we choose certain Merchant Category Codes for this promotion?
We know that local businesses have been severely impacted by the economic fallout of the pandemic and lockdowns.
And we’ve heard from thousands of our business members, and what they've told us they need—now more than anything—is for people to shop locally, and to support a fair economic recovery.
Thousands of local businesses fall into the Merchant Category Codes mentioned above, and with the intention of the program being to support as many local businesses as possible, we're confident this program will make a difference.
How else is Vancity supporting local businesses?
Vancity doesn’t serve shareholders, we serve our members, and they can only prosper and flourish when the community around them is strong and resilient. That’s why we've created tailored programs to help businesses pivot online and shift their model in a different direction, and offer support for women entrepreneurs and Black business owners.
Additionally, we’ve also partnered with Support Local BC and Daily Hive to encourage local spending and we support relevant Business Improvement Areas across British Columbia.
